Is San Miguel de Allende on your Bucket list?
Whenever we mention that we are planning trips to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, people exclaim that visiting there has always been on their bucket list. Well, now is the time to write this item off your list. So very excited to share not one, but two workshops planned for this beautiful UNESCO heritage site. San Miguel has long been a destination for artists and they have been traveling there since the 1930s. Now, it is your turn.
The whole city is a visual feast, from the pink colored La Parroquia in the zocolo, to the muted colors peeling on the buildings, the gorgeous doors found on every street, and the sky changing colors all day. The streets are lined in cobblestones with high sidewalks to allow for the rainfall to flow through the streets.

As you walk through the town, you will often see wedding parties entering or leaving the church as this is a popular destination for weddings. You may see mojigangas, too, those wonderful bawdy puppets that are made in San Miguel by Hermes Arroyo and his family. We'll be having a class with him - so much fun to see all the puppets lined up in his studio/home.
Earlier this year we were in Oaxaca with Carla Sonheim and Lynn Whipple. They had so much fun in Oaxaca that they were game to teach another workshop. Yep, in San Miguel. Have you seen the flowers that Lynn has been painting over the past few months. Incredible. I don't paint flowers, but her method is fun, freeing and luscious. There have been amazing paintings coming out of her online workshop Big Bold Bloom Wild Painting on Carla's network.
Carla will bring her own style of magic creating flowers and fauna. I have seen her exercises totally free up artists as they have fun drawing, shading and painting. She helps to unleash their inner, freer selves. Together, Carla and Lynn will plant the seeds, and you will grow the flowers. Big, bold, luscious, delicious flowers.
But wait! The second workshop will be with John and Lynn Whipple. John was also in Oaxaca with us and dropped in from time to time during our workshops and had dinners with us. I have long been an admirer of his work so I was thrilled to just meet him, then he and Lynn said that they would be willing to teach a workshop together. What? Okay, took me all of a second to say heck, yes, let's do it.

They have chosen the Muse - exploring faces, surface, story and design as their focus. If you know anything about John and Lynn, you know that they think outside of the box which makes their art so identifiable. You can check out my pinterest boards to see more of their work.
As they said, they are going to shake up your thinking and crack open your creativity with unconventional drawing and painting techniques using a fresh approach to the rules of design. Rules? Made to be broken, right?!
Oh, and did I mention that we are staying at Casa de la Noche, a former bordello? I can't make this stuff up people. It's a beautiful B&B.
