Thinking a lot about Paris

In my recent Diary of Faces class with Sharon Tomlinson, we traveled all over the world for 18 weeks visiting artists from Japan, Romania, Norway, Italy, Bulgaria, South Africa, England, Poland, Australia, U.S., Germany, Ireland, India, and Denmark. A lot of these artists honed and practiced their craft in Paris which constantly reminded me of my ongoing goal for the past 12 months, going to Paris with teacher extraordinaire, Jane Davenport for the Escape Artist Art workshop, June, 2013. I've been selling pieces of my art with the proceeds thrown into the Paris with Jane fund. All this traveling brought me to this piece entitled "Be A World Traveler." It's big, which you know I prefer if you followed some of my earlier posts. I started with pieces from my son's hiking topography maps (hope he doesn't notice that they are missing.....), atlas pages and indexes. I added textured wallpaper for her shoulders and arms,  strips in various places, the large flowers in her headdress, and antique wallpaper along the outside of her dress. The arches above her head echo the world maps that are in the background. Difficult to show that in a photograph, you have to see it in person to make that connection. Don't I sound like I gave it a lot of thought?!

Cool tissue paper that I bought in Bellingham when I visited that same son last year was added to the bodice. I used acrylics, lots of washes, and oil pastels. I hope you like it and will share it.  The proceeds are slated for the Paris with Jane fund.
