Faces: Surface, Story & Design with the Whipples

Recently, I attended the Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Denver, Colorado where I met with John and Lynn Whipple. The festival is one of the best I have ever attended, with amazing and diversified artists throughout. Both Lynn and John had booths, and how convenient, right next to each other. Lynn was super excited that one of her floral paintings was chosen as the festival's logo.

While visiting, we talked about our trip to San Miguel de Allende next February. John has so many ideas and you can tell by his own artwork that he thinks of almost any surface as fair game for painting like the piece pictured above top that I purchased from him at the festival made of metal with a modified stirrup and wood. Fabric, pieces of driftwood, barn wood, wood coins, anything helps John build his stories. He was practically levitating out of his chair as he described his ideas for the trip.

Lynn's ideas are equally intriguing. If you are familiar with her work, you know that she has a real sense of humor when it comes to painting. I have been a fan of her work from the very first piece I saw online. I love her assemblages, her paintings, and well, anything she does. Even her simple tags at her booth were precious - leaves that she painted the price on. I'm a huge fan, can you tell?

To see more of their work I have Pinterest Boards for both. You'll find John's here and Lynn's here. To study with them in beautiful San Miguel de Allende, is going to be amazing. Here's an article from Huffington about San Miguel. And here is my Pinterest board for San Miguel.

There is more detailed information and schedule for this fabulous workshop with the Whipples on my website. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter or early trip notifications for future Art Escapes and follow me on Facebook where trips are announced.

Happy arting!
